Arsenal Emerge As Serious Option For Philippe Coutinho

Arsenal could sign Philippe Coutinho for just £9million

Coutinho's current salary of around €13.7m-a-year (£240,000-a-week) is said to be "prohibitive" for the North London side, though the report adds that Barcelona are willing to subsidise up to half of his wages to assist with the deal.

Signing Coutinho for £9m would be a huge deal for Arsenal.

Coutinho has been offered to a host of Premier League sides this summer, including Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal qualified for the Community Shield with a narrow 2-1 FA Cup final win over Chelsea on Sunday.

One potential obstacle to this deal going through is Juventus' interest in Guendouzi, with a potential swap deal there too.

Arteta questioned the Frenchman's maturity after the incident and has exiled the midfielder from first-team training after he failed to impress during a meeting with him and and technical director Edu.

However, since moving to the Camp Nou, Coutinho's career has somewhat hit the skids, failing to establish himself as a regular at the Catalan club, before being shipped off to Bayern Munich on a season long-loan last summer.

And despite a season where he scored eight goals in 23 Bundesliga games, his career is now in a state of limbo after Bayern passed up the option to sign the Brazilian permanently.

While Bayern have decided against making the Brazilian's move permanent, it seems he could be headed for a return to the Premier League.

Here's how Arsenal fans reacted on Twitter to the idea of signing Coutinho - who cost £142 million in 2018 - for as little as £9 million.

'It's a big concern. That is the challenge'.
