Burlington's Centennial Field- COURTESY OF VERMONT LAKE MONSTERS

According to the team, members of the Brewers' "Taxi Squad" will practice at the home of the Timber Rattlers during the Major League season in case they're needed by the Brewers during the shortened MLB regular season.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers announced Tuesday there won't be a 2020 season.

The first dominoes in an uncertain baseball landscape fell on Monday afternoon as three players, including two from the defending World Champion Washington Nationals, opted out of the 2020 season due to health and safety concerns about COVID-19.

The team says any planned giveaways and promotions scheduled for the 2020 season will be moved to the 2021 season.

However, with the business end of each minor league affiliate nearly exclusively attached to gate revenue, playing in stadiums without fans was not beneficial. From drive-in fireworks shows to family movie nights on the giant videoboards to experiencing 'dinner on the diamond, ' teams will be finding creative ways to stay engaged with their community.

Dozens of minor league clubs also have supported the fight against the virus.

"In the end, there were just too many obstacles to overcome", Senators team president Kevin Kulp said via a press release.

Following speculation that it was going to happen, official word comes that the 2020 Minor League Baseball season is canceled.
