Respect Trailer: Jennifer Hudson Brings Aretha Franklin's Voice Back To The Big Screen

We have our first look at the incredible biopic on the late, great Aretha Franklin, starring Jennifer Hudson as the soulful diva.

At the helm behind the camera are Tracey Scott Wilson, who wrote the screenplay, and Liesl Tommy, the film's director.

The film follows the rise and career of music icon Aretha Franklin from childhood to stardom.

The movie also stars Forest Whitaker, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Marc Maron, Marlon Wayans, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan and Audra McDonald.

This is a powerful performance from the BET Awards by Hudson.

Aretha Franklin started singing gospels at her father's church and eventually moved on to become one of the legendary singers in the west.

Respect will exclusively feature the iconic songs: Respect; I Say A Little Prayer; Think; (You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman; You've Got A Friend; Dr. Feelgood; Do Right Woman, Do Right Man; Spanish Harlem; and Young, Gifted and Black.

However, one person who's already a big fan of the movie is Brigitte, who tweeted a link to the teaser trailer and wrote alongside it, "A must see movie!"

Jennifer Hudson as Aretha has left no stones unturned already.

This is not the only upcoming Aretha Franklin project Cynthia Erivo will also play her in the National Geographic anthology series Genius: Aretha.

Respect is set to hit cinemas on January 15, 2021.

Aretha Franklin was involved in the development of the film up until her death in August 2018.

The film will be released with a limited run Christmas Day.
