Guardiola confident in Man City’s CAS appeal against Champions League ban

Football: Manchester City's Pep Guardiola to discuss future with John Stones when season ends

The governing body had earlier announced dates of the second-leg matches which will be played behind closed doors in Turin, Manchester, Munich and Barcelona on August 7 and 8 respectively.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has warned his players ahead of the clash against Real Madrid in the second leg of the round 16.

Advantage of playing at home against Real Madrid. "It is incredible what [Madrid] have done in this competition, nobody has done it". There is nobody in Manchester City who knows Real Madrid as well as I do.

City were banned by UEFA and handed a 30 million euro ($34 million, £27 million) fine for allegedly overstating sponsorship revenue to hide that they had not complied with financial fair-play (FFP) rules between 2012 and 2016. A verdict in the case is due on Monday.

Should both Premier League sides progress to the semi-finals, the pair would do battle in a mouth-watering clash to decide who makes the August 21 final.

This crescendo of events is something Guardiola believes has got through to his players.

"They know the competition they have with each other but my admiration, my respect and my opinion of him has not changed one bit". I have the feeling that (for) my players in the club, and the organisation that we have, the next four weeks is something that is not coming back again.

That could be the last chance for some of City's biggest names to win the Champions League for the club as a two-year ban would have severe consequences for the club's finances.

The situation will certainly not come back for club great David Silva. They add to the Copa del Rey he won at Valencia and, of course, the World Cup and two European titles he has won with Spain. "John's struggled with his injuries", Guardiola said. "They deserve to be in the Champions League".

Yet the prize that has eluded them is the one the Abu Dhabi project most desires - the Champions League. "But I'm pretty sure after one decade in this club, he will try".

On Friday City learned their possible route to this season's Champions League. In a club and a city where Kevin feels good and appreciated.

"That's part of football". It's hard for a player and for all of us.

"There are players who can play every three days for 11 months".

"Arsenal is an important point but it's important to keep momentum and rhythm to the way we play".
