YouTuber Shane Dawson Slammed for Willow Smith, Trayvon Martin Comments

Shane Dawson Apologises For Doing Blackface Says He’s “Willing To Lose Everything”

It's been a big week in YouTuber world.

Earlier this week, YouTuber Jenna Marbles quit the platform and apologised for her past racist behaviour, including videos where she wore blackface to impersonate Nicki Minaj.

Enough to leave the internet reeling, right?

Shane Dawson is one of YouTube's OG content creators, having founded his channel back in 2008.

Shane has already addressed the controversy before during his 20-minute long video titled, "Taking Accountability".

Following Dawson's statement, which compared the beauty industry to a "circus", users began to unearth his old bits and photos in which he played racial stereotypes, used blackface, or joked about paedophilia. He said that while these have always been deleted or hidden, he can't escape this past.

In one video, Dawson dressed up as Hitler says "We must all kill the Jews" before proceeding to read evil tweets about himself. "Like, I did it a lot on my channel and there's no excuse for it, there's literally no excuse", he said.

"I swear on my life, I am not somebody who would ever talk about a child, like in seriousness, I would never talk about a child in any way that is inappropriate", Dawson said, "It is something I did for shock value or because I thought it was amusing".

According to Distractify, Dawson later clarified he did not do anything sexual with his cat and that the story was fake, saying: "I didn't put my d-k anywhere near my cat". "I made that decision. I said, "Oh, this is amusing, ' and I put it on the internet", Shane said. "There's no excuse for it. It's all gross and I promise that that is not real; that is not me", Dawson said, vowing to do better in the future. "And my justification at the time for that was, 'Oh I was playing a character and it was in comedy and my Black friend was there and that makes it okay.' No it's not okay". He revealed why his apology is different this time around.

'I made a video six years ago talking about it and I gave excuses and it was wrong... However, he claims that it is only recently that he understood just how poorly the incidents were handled in the past. "The part of the Twitter note that I regret more than anything in my entire life, was the part where I said that James deserve a slice of humble pie the size of the Empire State Building", he said.

"I'm so sorry that I was just so thoughtless about the things I was posting for so many years".
