A record single-day surge of 19,906 Covid-19 cases pushed India's tally to 5,28,859 on Sunday, while the death toll rose to 16,095 with 410 persons succumbing to the infection in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

Over 3 lakh patients have recovered, while over 2 lakh cases are now active, government data shows. The total number of deaths in the national capital has mounted to 2,558 as the city-state grapples with the shortage of hospital beds.

THE STATE recorded 6,368 positive cases of Covid-19, taking the total to 1,59,133 on Saturday. 44,094 people have recovered, and 1,025 people have died due to the disease.

A total of 3,09,712 patients have been cured of COVID-19 so far with 13,832 patients having recovered in the last 24 hours, it said. The pandemic may peak in some parts of India within weeks, with projections saying it may surpass the one-million-cases benchmark before the end of next month.

- Kerala has reported a total of 4,071 coronavirus positive patients, of which 1,939 are active. Asia has reported about 11% and the Middle East 11% and 9% of all cases. That number has increased steadily, day-by-day since June 22, when 14,821 new cases were logged. With 1,400 new infections, Mumbai's tally has climbed to 74,252.

Chhattisgarh has registered 13 deaths, Jharkhand 12, Puducherry 10, Assam and Himachal Pradesh nine each, Chandigarh six, Goa two and Meghalaya, Tripura, Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh have reported one fatality each, according to the Health Ministry.

Amid rising number of cases, the Karnataka government has enforced full lockdown every Sunday from July 5.

Presently, there are 2,03,051 active cases and all are under active medical supervision, it said.
