Heat warning issued for Waterloo Region, Guelph and surrounding areas

GTA under a heat warning, temperatures near 30 C expected

The greatest chance for wet weather will be on Thursday, with showers in the forecast for the early evening.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Waterloo Region and the surrounding area as temperatures push 30 degrees Celsius.

Issued at 12:33 p.m., the heat warning is in effect for Peterborough, Peterborough County, City of Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland County. The agency writes on its website that "humidex values reaching 40 are expected for the next day".

You should drink a lot of water if you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

High daytime temperatures near 30 C, 86 F, are forecast Monday afternoon and are expected to be slightly higher Tuesday and Wednesday.

"While temperatures Thursday will continue to be above normal, they will be a little lower than today due to more cloud cover and perhaps an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon".

Meanwhile, Durham Police Constable George Tudos says people, especially kids, and pets should never be left in a hot vehicle.

A cold front will deliver considerably cooler and less humid air to southern Ontario on Friday. Young children, pregnant women, and the elderly are particularly at risk- as are those working outdoors.
