Gianna Bryant and Her Late Teammates Honored During WNBA Draft

"It would've been a dream come true for her", Vanessa said, who was tearing up as she shared her gratitude.

The WNBA Draft was scheduled to take place in person in New York City, but WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert announced in March that the draft picks would be announced from a remote live stream.

In her video, Vanessa was wearing the orange WNBA sweatshirt of her late husband. "Use that Mamba Mentality", Vanessa said in an emotional congratulatory video on Instagram.

Vanessa then gave the ladies a few words of wisdom, inspired by the memory of her husband and daughter: "Work hard, never settle".

NBA legend Bryant had applied to trademark rising star Gianna's nickname, "Mambacita", just a month before they died alongside two of Gianna's teammates, their parents and the pilot on their way from their home to his basketball academy on January 27. "Mommy's proud and happy for you mamacita!"

"Im sending you all my love babe", Khloe Kardashian commented on the couple's photo. "Players who were following their passion, acquiring knowledge of the game, strengthening skills that were way beyond their years".

Along with the honorary draft pick, the WNBA also announced the Kobe and Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award, which honors individuals or groups who have made significant contributions to the progression of girls' and women's basketball.

Gianna's special honors come four days after Mamba Day, the April 13 anniversary of Kobe's final National Basketball Association game in 2016.

"When David Stern launched the WNBA 23 years ago, he changed the course of women's basketball in the USA forever ... Gave it his all", she wrote.

WNBA drafting the three girls lost in that helicopter crash... We had 2 more daughters, he won an Oscar, he opened Granity studios, he became a 5x best selling author and coached Gianna's basketball team in that time. She wanted to be one of the greatest athletes of all time, just like her daddy. Life truly isn't fair.
