EFL League One: Ipswich Town must wait longer to know their fate

In doing so, under the EFL's framework, they would both be promoted.

A decision on the fate of the League One season has been delayed further.

Currently, unweighted points-per-game would decide final league placings in all three divisions if the respective seasons can not be completed.

But before clubs can hold a ballot on whether or not to play on, they first have to vote to agree to the rule changes proposed by the governing body.

If, as expected, a vote to curtail League One does take place - 51 per cent of clubs will have to vote in favour to end.

League One clubs are set to remain engulfed by uncertainty for more than a week as prospects of the third tier resuming the current season continue to recede.

"A decision on whether or not to curtail the season is a matter to be considered by clubs in any affected division, but only once a framework for resolving open issues in such circumstances has been agreed by all members across all divisions through a regulation change", the EFL said in a statement.

"Following the latest round of Covid-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 1,058 players and club staff from the 24 Championship clubs were tested over the course of Thursday 28 May and Friday 29 May, with 10 individuals testing positive from eight clubs", a statement said.

EFL chief executive Rick Parry wrote to all 71 EFL clubs last month outlining plans for all Football League matches to be broadcast live online using their iFollow service when the sport returns as a way of generating money while stadiums are closed to fans.

The EFL board "unanimously" agreed upon a framework at a meeting on Wednesday, but now needs clubs to approve it.

"The EFL Articles allow Member Clubs the opportunity to propose amendments to Regulations and should any Club wish to propose an alternative, it must do so by submitting such a proposal by no later than 2.00pm on Tuesday 2 June 2020".

Yesterday (Thursday), the Premier League announced a provisional restart date of June 17 with up to six games at neutral venues.
