National applause for NHS workers

Residents in other countries including Spain, France and the Netherlands have already taken part in similar rounds of applause as a token of support for healthcare workers across the world in these tough times.

The UK's campaign started online, and is expected to be supported by hundreds of thousands of people tonight.

The Clap for our Carers campaign is asking for as many people as possible to clap their hands together at 8pm to thank all doctors, nurses, carers, GPs, pharmacists and other NHS staff.

A nationwide event to celebrate and thank those who are caring for us during the coronavirus pandemic is to take place tomorrow evening - and we'd love you to get involved!

Organisers have called for people to clap every Thursday while the coronavirus outbreak continues.

Spice Girl Emma Bunton added: "I want to say a HUGE thank you to all NHS staff and carers for the incredible job they're doing in the most hard of circumstances". And being a Dutch Londoner, I want to pass this on in the country I feel so at home, and the NHS had been nothing but awesome to my family and myself!'

You might have seen the hashtag #ClapForOurCarers trending on social media in the last few days - and this Thursday - us here at Capital XTRA, along with all of Global's radio stations will be taking a minute out to "Applaud Our NHS Heroes".
