The scale of the epidemic ballooned this week after officials in the Chinese province of Hubei - the epicentre of the outbreak - changed their criteria for counting cases, adding thousands of new patients to the tally.

"His condition had quickly worsened and he had been in critical condition for several days", Buzyn said in a statement.

Efforts were on to contact the 250 delegates from across the United Kingdom who attended a conference in London where they might have come into contact with the United Kingdom capital city's first coronavirus patient, a media report said on Friday.

Those six include the 50-year-old daughter of the deceased tourist and five Britons who became infected at a French ski resort.

There have been 11 cases of the coronavirus in France, CNN reported.

A total of 1,750 people in the United Kingdom have tested negative for the virus, which causes the disease now known as Covid-19.

Anyone experiencing symptoms, even if mild, after travelling from mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau, is advised to stay indoors and call the NHS 111 phone service.

More than 750 British patients were tried for coronavirus in one day as the frenzy over the flare-up strengthened the nation over.

The virus is thought to have originated at a seafood market where wildlife was also traded illegally in the city of Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, in December 2019.
