Mikel Arteta explains how Arsenal's summer transfer window will work

"That's why Arteta will already be looking ahead to the summer when we will doubtless see some interesting transfer activity".

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is confident the club's "mini pre-season" in Dubai will help them cope with a hectic schedule following the Premier League's new mid-season break.

The Gunners have struggled in the league this season and now sit in 10th place having drawn their last four top-flight matches.

"We have Edu, we have Raul (Sanllehi), Vinai (Venkatesham) and Huss (Fahmy) who are in charge of that and I am sure we will do the right thing when players deserve to improve and extend their contracts".

The Spaniard oversaw loan deals for Brazil defender Pablo Mari and Southampton full-back Cedric Soares.

Arteta and his squad benefited from a run of 14 days between February fixtures, a run which ends with the home game against Newcastle United, live on Sky Sports Premier League on Sunday at 4.30pm. Arsenal would now be two points above Chelsea in fourth spot, gunning for a Champions League berth that, if secured, would make a massive difference to the whole club.

"At the moment we are far from it, but there are a lot of games to play".

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta selects Bernd Leno in goal, while in defence he opts to go with Shkodran Mustafi and David Luiz as the centre-back pairing.

"He's been training, his work ethic is incredible, I've been really impressed with him so hopefully we can get him soon but we need to be careful and a little bit patient with him as well".
