Man charged in the death of Drew Carey's ex-fiancee

Dr. Amie Harwick was a Playboy model before she became a therapist

It's unclear if Pursehouse has an attorney.

Production on The Price is Right was halted for the week while Carey dealt with the news.

Around 1:15 a.m., officers in the Hollywood Hills responded to a radio call of a woman screaming, and Harwick's roommate met them in the street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. "A canvass of the area located further evidence of an intruder (suspect) entering the property and leaving after the murder". He has been released on US$2 million bond.

His freedom was short-lived, however, and he was re-arrested Wednesday on a no-bail warrant, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Harwick's website described her as a marriage and sex therapist.

"The defendant faces the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted as charged", Assistant Chief DA Greg Risling said. The D.A. says no decision has been made on whether to seek capital punishment.

Harwick accused Pursehouse suffocated her in May 2011, saying he punched her, slammed her head onto the ground and covered her mouth to keep her from yelling after they got into a fight.

Court documents reviewed by catalog detail how he once pushed her out of a vehicle on the freeway, and in another incident forced her onto the ground and viciously kicked her in the face. She later died from her injuries.

After the news of Amie's death broke, Williams addressed her passing on her TV show by alleging, "She was killed, not by Drew, but by the ex".

In California the maximum length of a restraining order is five years.

Harwick "recently expressed fear about a former boyfriend" who she had filed a restraining order against, according to police.

Harwick had obtained the restraining orders after claiming her ex had been harassing her, including reportedly breaking into her apartment and smashing her photo frames, and sending threatening emails to her friends. It was noted that she received the injuries when she "fell from a balcony after altercation" and that there was "evidence of manual strangulation".

"Amie told me after the incident that she was scared he would show up at her home", former adult-film star Jasmin St. Claire told the outlet.

Now, Pursehouse is back in custody and the D.A. says on Thursday he will be arraigned.
