Playing in her first WTA circuit match in just over two years, India's Sania Mirza made a winning return, advancing to the quarter-finals of the Hobart International on Tuesday.

The unseeded duo will face the American pair of Christina McHale and Vania King in the next round.

In the quarter-final, Mirza and Kichenok will take on US pair Vania King and Christina McHale.

In an engaging showdown, Sania and Kichenok weren't off to a particularly good start as they double-faulted twice, failed to convert any of the seven break points that came their way and lost their serve two times to go down 2-6 in the opening set.

Shortly after winning the game, Sania took to Twitter and shared an adorable photo with son Izhaan. The Hyderabadi is married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.

She took to social media to share that she was delighted to have her family and son support her as she played women's doubles at the Hobart International on Tuesday.

Sania Mirza has been shouldering the hopes of countless tennis fans throughout her illustrious career which looked to be on the verge of an end for the previous year and a half.

For your information, let us tell you that Sania, who has taken Indian tennis to new heights, has been number one in doubles and is a six-time Grand Slam victor.

But a wrist injury caused her to concentrate on doubles, forging a partnership with Swiss great Martina Hingis which produced three Grand Slam titles.

She reached the fourth round of the US Open in the same year, and by 2007 was among the women's top 30.
