Taika Waititi has been approached to develop a Star Wars movie

Taika Waititi has reportedly been approached about making a Star Wars movie

Taika Waititi is reportedly in talks to direct a new Star Wars movie. It is not clear if the project is for streaming platform Disney Plus or for theatrical. Details about that project are not known at this time, but Feige will develop the film alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

Waititi is now in production on Fox Searchlight's "Next Goal Wins" about the underdog American Samoa soccer team and will direct the third installment of the "Thor" franchise with Chris Hemsworth this August. After the pair signed a massive deal with Netflix - reported to be in the range of $200 million - they made a decision to pull out of the project, citing time constraints.

Waititi recently directed the season finale of "The Mandalorian", Lucasfilm's breakout series for Disney Plus, and he also played the droid IG-11. We'll be sure to keep you up to date on developments as they relate to Waititi's potential role in the Star Wars cinematic universe.

The studio behind an undisclosed Star Wars movie wants filmmaker Taika Waititi to come aboard.

"I didn't get fired, I just did whatever Jon Favreau said", Waititi joked to us. We'll have to call Dave.' And we call Dave and it's like, 'Dude, did they have machine gun blasters?' 'Absolutely not.

The future of Star Wars movies is up in the air at the moment. That scheduled film is also not the one in the frame to potentially be directed by Rian Johnson (The Last Jedi).
