Solskjaer confident of Man United upsetting Liverpool

"I've had both wins and defeats there as a player and you've got to look forward to these games", he said.

Manchester United captain Ashley Young has reportedly walked out of training at the Premier League side in his desperation to force a move to Inter Milan.

In an interview to Sky Sports, Solskjaer said, "He (Young) is 35 in the summer and if he gets a two-year contract somewhere it's up to him to take that".

"We weren't ready to offer that".

Solskjaer also confirmed Harry Maguire will take over the captain's armband from Ashley Young, with the veteran full back poised to join Inter Milan on a two-year deal. He's been a good servant for the club, he's been captain, he's won trophies.

"He's been a leader in the group, I've been, not surprised, but impressed by his leadership skills, so he will continue wearing the armband".

"I can't tell you now, of course we're going to give him the absolute amount of time to find out, we'll do some more checks and treatment with him today", Solskjaer said.

Maguire will wear the armband for the first time as United's permanent skipper against champions-elect Liverpool on Sunday. Now we've got a different one.

United will be the latest club to try and end the Reds' unbeaten run which now stands at 38, while also being the first to win at Anfield in the Premier League since April 2017.

United will face Watford or Tranmere in the fourth round, their third-round replay at Prenton Park having been postponed on Tuesday due to a waterlogged pitch. Liverpool top the table with 14 points above the second-placed Manchester City with a game in hand.

Ole Gunnar Solskajer admits he is confident that his Manchester United side can get a result at Liverpool this weekend.
