Captain Marvel 2 is targeting a 2022 release date, claims report

‘Captain Marvel’ Sequel Officially In Development At Disney’s Marvel Studios

'Captain Marvel' made over $1 billion at the box office previous year (it was one six Disney movies to do so in 2019, actually).

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Danvers is a human who develops incredible powers in an explosion involving an alien machine and is caught in the battle between two alien races, the Kree and the Skrulls. Disney's Marvel Studios has officially begun production on the sequel to Captain Marvel (2019), the billion-dollar hit that energized and expanded the hitmaker studio's young female constituency.

WandaVision story editror Megan McDonnell is reportedly in negotiations to script the Captain Marvel sequel, with a plan to set it in the present day.

There's no news yet on who will direct, but it's thought that Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who co-wrote and co-directed the first film, won't be back for the second. The original film was the 22nd Marvel Studios film, but the first with a female hero as the lead title character.

Last July, while at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, reassured fans that there would be a Captain Marvel 2 but did not disclose any further details. Coincidentally, a grown-up version of Captain Marvel's Monica Rambeau will debut in WandaVision, played by Tyonah Parris.

Marvel is now eyeing a 2022 release date for Captain Marvel 2. Captain Marvel raked in over $1.1 billion worldwide and kicked off word-of-mouth buzz that prompted a highly publicized (and slightly disappointing) extended appearance for Larson in Avengers: Endgame.

The superhero movie starred Brie Larson in the titular role, also known as Carol Danvers.
