All Half-Life Games Are Now Free (For The Next Two Months)

Every Half-Life game is free-to-play on Steam for the next two months

Valve has made the first two Half-Life games and their expansions available for free for the next two months. No, you are not hallucinating because you hit your head during a resonance cascade explosion; if you have a Steam account, you can play every official game in the franchise for free.

Half-Life: Source, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, as well as Opposing Force and Blue Shift are all listed as free for the next two months.

All Half-Life offerings including The Orange Box still show pricing, so it's possible Valve will put the event live later today or sometime this week, unless there was a mistake.

Valve says Half-Life: Alyx was "designed from the ground up" for Virtual Reality and "features all of the hallmarks of a classic Half-Life game", including "world exploration, puzzle solving, visceral combat, and an intricately woven story that connects it all with the characters iconic to the Half-Life universe". Still, any excuse to play Half-Life, whether at a discount or for free, is a good excuse.

Whether you haven't touched the series since then, or whether they were after your time and you never tried them, it's very helpful to have the chance to get all caught up. If it is legit, we can expect to see it again as we get closer to Half-Life: Alyx's March 2020 release date. There's also no way to know if the collection will just be a Steam bundle or a new item in its own right - serving as a catch-all entry point for new players - but it shouldn't matter much in the end.
