Absolutely Devastated - Former Chelsea Star Crushed By Defeat At Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Bruce Ashley backs transfer plans

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard warned that his team can not always rely on striker Tammy Abraham for a steady supply of goals after watching Newcastle United take the spoils at St. James Park on Saturday. "I wouldn't say [we need] a goalscorer but we need to be more clinical in the box in terms of our front line".

The game was opening up in the tail end but it was Bruce's troops who snatched the victor deep in stoppage time courtesy of Isaac Hayden's header on the far post from Allan Saint-Maximin's cross.

"We have a lot of talent in this team, but sticking the ball in the back of the net is a huge thing and if we want to do it as a club going forward, this season and next season going forward and we are controlling games as we are, then we have to score goals".

Chelsea's leading scorer Tammy Abraham has 13 league goals this season, while Willian has two since the end of October and Mason Mount is without a single strike since the start of last month. "They defended with everything but we absolutely controlled it". It's a reality. I will always defend the players and am pleased with the players we have but we cant work any more in training on finishing.

Isaac Hayden's header earned the Magpies an unlikely win at St James' Park. "Credit to them that they defended so well, I thought we gave it our all and worked hard throughout the game, but in football, anything can happen".

The visitors were on top for most of the game but simply could not convert as once again the inexperience of Chelsea's youthful generation played out in front of goal. They are disappointed, not just the young players but everyone.

"It's football, you have to get your head around it very quickly".
