The two people killed were Jack Merritt, 25, and Saskia Jones, 23, police said.

The Polish national - known only as Lukasz - had allegedly snatched the 1.5 metre narwhal turk from the wall of Fishmonger's Hall, where he worked as a chef.

He said Johnson has a track record of misleading the public on this and other matters, including Brexit: "I'm really alarmed that we are on the brink of having a prime minister who is the most untruthful prime minister of all time".

West Midlands Police said the man had been "recalled to prison due to a suspected breach of his license conditions". The tusks are mostly grown on males, although they have been found on 15 per cent of female whales.

"Two people remain in a stable condition and continue to receive expert care in hospital".

Police say Khan was pronounced dead on the bridge.

Cambridge University has revealed that the woman stabbed to death in a London extremist attack was a former student.

"We believe that the attack began inside before he left the building and proceeded onto London Bridge", Basu said.

Johnson's Conservatives have championed tough police and prison measures, but opponents have criticised them for overseeing nearly a decade of cuts to public services.

Khan has become a contentious political issue ahead of Britain's December 12 election, with Johnson blaming the previous Labour government for changing the law in 2008 to allow for the early release of prisoners.

The Cambridge vigil took place as Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Opposition Leader Jeremy Corbyn stood side-by-side to pay their respects at a separate event at Guildhall Yard in London, observing a minute's silence alongside members of the public. Khan had originally received an indeterminate sentence to be kept behind bars for public protection but this was quashed by the United Kingdom court of appeal in April 2013, after which he was given a determinate 16-year jail term and ordered to serve at least eight years in prison before being considered for parole. "I absolutely deplore the fact that this man was out on the street, I think it was absolutely repulsive and we are going to take action".

Corbyn said Conservative cuts to community policing, probation, mental health, youth and social services could "lead to missed chances to intervene in the lives of people who go on to commit inexcusable acts".

"There are enormous questions to be learned from this bad event that happened last week and that is: What happened in the prison with this particular individual, what assessment was made of his psychological condition before he was released, and also what supervision and monitoring he was under after coming out?" said Corbyn.

Forensic officers attend the scene in central London, Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, after an attack on London Bridge on Friday.

It comes after Jack's father, in a tweet on Sunday night, accused the Daily Mail and Daily Express of using his son's death "to promote your vile propaganda".

"Jack stood against everything you stand for - hatred, division, ignorance".

The attacker, convicted terrorist Usman Khan who secured an early release from prison, was apparently attending the event and had returned for the afternoon session when he began his stabbing rampage.

Some people at the event, including prison staff and former prisoners, put their lives in danger to restrain the attacker until police arrived, officials said.

The Islamic State has said the attack was carried out by one of its fighters, however, the group did not provide any evidence.
