Steelers place quarterback Mason Rudolph on IR

Pittsburgh has placed quarterback Mason Rudolph on Injured Reserve with a left shoulder injury. Devlin Hodges continued to play the way he did against the Buffalo Bills, throwing two interceptions in the first 21 minutes of the game, one of them a pass into the Jets' end zone that cost the Steelers at least three points.

Rudolph, a second-year QB from Oklahoma State, took over as the starter when Ben Roethlisberger went on injured reserved with an elbow injury in September. Hodges is expected to start with Paxton Lynch serving as the backup. The undrafted rookie has completed 67.4% of his passes but has thrown eight interceptions and just five touchdown passes in his five starts.

Rudolph initially took Roethlisberger's place under center, but his shaky play merited the undrafted quarterback Duck to enter the fold; remarkably, regardless of the rotating starter gunslinger, the Steelers-mostly due to their defense and running game-have been able to stay viable in the playoff hunt.

The Steelers (8-7) will play the Ravens (13-2) in Baltimore on Sunday.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and several other prominent players will not suit up for a Week 17 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to coach John Harbaugh.

In addition to a Houston Texans win against the Tennessee Titans, Pittsburgh needs to beat the Ravens to secure the final wild-card place in the AFC.
