Rashford strikes twice to ruin Mourinho's Old Trafford return

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho

Rashford, in oustanding form, then had a dipping drive brilliantly tipped on to the bar by Spurs keeper Paulo Gazzaniga and United created a series of good openings, playing some of their best football of the season so far.

Spurs' first loss under their new head coach came against his former club, with two Marcus Rashford goals securing victory for Ole Gunnar Solskjær's side after Alli's equaliser.

With the availability of Mauricio Pochettino, who Mourinho replaced at Spurs, looming large over Solskjaer, the boss saw his team put in a fine display.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 01: Nemanja Matic of Manchester United looks on during a press conference ahead of their Group H match against Valencia in UEFA Champions League at Aon Training Complex on October 1, 2018 in Manchester, England.

'[The result] will give him a few days peace and quiet for sure, ' Schmeichel told Amazon Prime: 'It will last until the next game he loses.

'He is under pressure.

Solskjaer said: "The boy is 22 and today he played like he was in the back yard or garden or in the playground with his mates. I think United must obviously be happy with the points, and overall they deserved it".

With a win on Wednesday, Mourinho could join Rafael Benitez and Martin O'Neil as the third manager to win a Premier League game at Old Trafford with two different teams.

But despite being a clear second best, Tottenham edged their way back into the game and were on level terms six minutes before half-time thanks to an audacious piece of skill from the in-form Alli. United fans love to see wingers and forwards play with courage.

'We want them to go out and enjoy themselves, with no fear of losing.

"I understand that what they want is the exact opposite of what I want".

The Red Devils are sat in a lowly tenth place, but they can move above their next opponents with a win.
