New Planet of the Apes Movie in Development at 20th Century Fox

New ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Movie In Early Development At 20th Century Fox With Director Wes Ball

It's now unclear whether Ball's Planet of The Apes (whatever it ends up being called) will continue the story established in the recent Apes trilogy, which came to an end back in 2017.

Wes directed the Maze Runner trilogy, which grossed almost $1 billion worldwide.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Disney is planning to expand the "Planet of the Apes" franchise by developing a new movie and has signed Wes Ball to don the director's hat for the newest film in the highly successful series.

Following the Fox-Disney merger, this shall be the first Fox property that Disney has developed into a brand new film.

The 39-year-old director was set to adapt the Boom! Then came the harsh realization that it wasn't a different planet, but really Earth, which went through a nuclear war.

This will mark the first new Planet of the Apes movie since Disney acquired Fox, the studio that originally produced the franchise.

In more modern times, fans have seen filmmakers return to the story with Tim Burton's 2001 action-adventure movie and the more recent triumphant "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" trilogy which began in 2011.

One of these big franchises was The Planet of the Apes, which rose from initially being dismissed as just another cash-in reboot to surprisingly become a massive critical and box office success. It's very early in the works, and it's not certain if this will pick up where Matt Reeves' War for the Planet of the Apes left off or if it's a complete remake. However, it appears like the thing to do now would be a franchise reboot that jumps forward to something more like the original film.
