E.T. Reunited With Elliott In Christmas Special For Xfinity

You weren't the only one to "phone home" on Thanksgiving. You may remember him more recently as one of the stars of Netflix's hit horror series 'The Haunting of Hill House'. He had a pivotal role in Doctor Sleep too. For instance, Elliott's son can be seen wearing similar pajamas to the ones he, himself, wore in the film.

Interestingly, a sequel to E.T., titled Nocturnal Fears, was considered briefly in the '80s with Elliot and his friends being kidnapped by evil aliens. Now, where's Gertie (Drew Barrymore)? "A lot has changed since you were here", Elliott says, and that's an understatement.

Steven Spielberg may not have top billing for this sort-of sequel.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, the original E.T. film won four Oscars and grossed over $790 million dollars worldwide, according to IMDb. No U.S. shows or new music have been announced yet. Instead, Lance Acord (cinematographer for Lost in Translation and Adaptation) directed A Holiday Reunion.

Acord has directed before but he's best known as a cinematographer.

"More than anything, the whole story is about family", Acord said.

Yep, the little fella who briefly visited Earth in the 80s before heading home, has come back to see his old pal, Elliott. The executives behind the ad didn't just want E.T. selling their wares.

The kids fly their bikes to a hilltop, where the spacecraft that arrived to deliver E.T.to his home is waiting.

Xfinity worked across the Comcast NBCUniversal family of companies to reunite these beloved characters this season.

After all, Elliott is aware of the place they are going: to that clearing within the woods the place E.T. caught his journey dwelling all these years in the past.
