10-man Palace clinch win over Bournemouth

Palace's Mamadou Sakho exits the field following his sending off

Yet Bournemouth struggled to create chances and were stunned when Jeffrey Schlupp dribbled into the area and fired beyond Aaron Ramsdale in the 76th minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 win which moves them up to fifth.

Asked if the squad can overcome injuries, Schlupp insisted: 'Yes definitely.

It appeared as though the first Premier League match to be broadcast on Amazon Prime would end goalless, but instead the hosts snatched victory when Schlupp, on as a first-half substitute for the injured Patrick van Aanholt, weaved his way through the Bournemouth defence before tucking home a low shot.

Hodgson added: "Where we have been strong strangely enough is centre-back and blow me down we lose Gary before Burnley, Scott during the Burnley game and in this game we lose another centre-back". Cheikhou did an unbelievable job for us and he has played in that position before so has experience there.

In contrast, Crystal Palace have now kept a clean sheet in back to back wins for the first time since the start of the 2018/19 season.

He admitted: 'I have just got to be ready when called upon and I feel like I'm doing that at the minute. He is the boss and what decision he makes is to try and win the game'.

"He didn't just want to go out there playing for a draw, he wanted us to attack when the right moments came and we did that".

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has praised the professionalism of winger Andros Townsend.

Van Aanholt is expected to be absent for the trip to Vicarage Road, although may not be sidelined for too long with the Dutchman replaced by Schlupp in the 29th minute.

The Cherries have finished 16th, 9th, 12th, and 14th, impressive feats, and again sit 12th after Tuesday's loss.
