Woman from Las Vegas found in desert after harrowing, weeklong kidnapping

A father and daughter were arrested in California earlier this week after police say they kidnapped a woman at gunpoint in Las Vegas and held her captive for almost a week in Southern California, where they raped, sexually assaulted and ultimately left her to die in the desert north of Los Angeles.

The woman in her 40s was reportedly cold and exposed to the elements.

The duo then held her captive in California for about a week, where she was raped, assaulted and forced to withdraw money from an ATM machine, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Capt. Eddie Hernandez said at a press conference Friday. She was dealt with at a hospital and launched, and she has because returned to Nevada."She's pretty fortunate to be alive", Hernandez stated.It is really not obvious how extensive the lady was in the desert or why her abductors released her. "At some place, she was sexually assaulted and then remaining for dead."Authorities stated the female, who was dumped in the desert with out food or drinking water, was struggling from chilly and publicity when armed service authorities discovered her near the sprawling armed forces base".

"It's a vicious case", the captain said.

Police found her near a highway by Edwards Airforce Base, north of Los Angeles in the Antelope Desert Valley. He was arrested Wednesday and his daughter was taken into custody on Thursday.

The victim knew her kidnappers, according to authorities, but the case "doesn't seem to point to any type of revenge", Hernandez said.

It was not immediately clear if the Lawtons had lawyers who could speak on their behalf.

Investigators believe the house belongs to Lawton, he said.

Bail for Stanley and Shaniya Lawton was set at $1 million each, pending legal proceedings.

The pair are accused of keeping the woman in a room and sexually assaulting her on the following Sunday.

North Las Vegas police were gathering information and didn't immediately have comment. The case will be tried as a federal case since the woman was taken across state lines.

The suspects kidnapped the girl at gunpoint spherical October 30 and at some level took her to a home in Palmdale, California. Air Force officials could not right away be arrived at for remark.
