Joe Burrow leads LSU to win over Alabama in thriller

Joe Burrrow sprinted toward the LSU fans to celebrate a monumental victory, and moments later was hoisted on the shoulders of two beefy teammates.

The No. 5-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions have their sights set on their first appearance in the College Football Playoff, and a road win against a ranked team, like No. 13 Minnesota, would be another resume-booster that would sure come in handy come selection time. He completed 31 of his 39 pass attempts for 393 yards and three touchdowns while adding 64 yards on the ground.

Upon the release of the initial College Football Playoff Rankings this past week, the race toward the national championship officially hit the home stretch. And Burrow stamped himself as the Heisman Trophy front-runner with a gutty performance when he answered every challenge from 'Bama. "I was really happy with the way we responded".

It's tough to give anyone a game ball on this unit, considering the Lions allowed 460 yards of total offense, but linebacker Jan Johnson had a nice day, as he totaled 11 tackles (six solos) and three tackles for loss.

The showdown lived up to its billing as a duel between two high-powered offenses and star quarterbacks with President Donald Trump attending. Jordan Jefferson recovered the ensuing onside kick and LSU could start a celebration eight years in the making. Burrow said titles are what he was after when he transferred to LSU from Ohio State. The much-anticipated action we witnessed in Week 11 certainly played a huge part in creating that separation. This was never our goal.

Can the Big Ten still get two teams in?

Alabama fought back in the second half, but Edwards-Helaire scored two crucial fourth-quarter touchdowns to keep the Tigers ahead.

Tagovailoa, 20 days removed from ankle surgery, was 21 of 40 for 418 yards and four touchdowns with an interception and a fumble. The biggest game this week - if not the entire season - pits undefeated Alabama against undefeated LSU. "F- you!" Coach O said. The question is who goes first and to where. "I think he was a warrior in terms of what he did".

Rashod Bateman broke the TCF Bank Stadium record for yards receiving with seven receptions for 203 yards and a touchdown.

LSU outgained Alabama by a slender 559-541.

Right now, Alabama's only hope for a win over a ranked opponent is Auburn, which could finish the regular season at 8-4 and might only be ranked in the No. 17 to No. 20 range.

The running backs delivered.

Rashod Bateman got the Gophers going with a 66-yard score on their first possession that covered 95 yards.

Strength of schedule, head‐to‐head competition and championships won must be specifically applied as tie‐breakers between teams that look similar.
