Research By Movemeber Reveals Men's Mental Health At Work A Problem

Eleven of Us campaign launch

WHO deplored on Monday that only 38 countries around the world have national suicide prevention strategies.

On World Suicide Prevention Day we want employers to consider how they can develop a mental health strategy that promotes open communication about mental health and check if they have support measures in place for people who feel they can't cope.

Weekes said this country's established guidelines for reporting on suicide is a critical resource that should be used in the effort to reduce suicides, in particular, of the copycat variety.

Overall, close to 800,000 people die by suicide every year - more than are killed by malaria or breast cancer, or by war or homicide, the World Health Organization said. As WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus points out, every death is a tragedy for family, friends and colleagues.

Roberts explained that everyone can make a contribution in preventing suicide, and added that by joining together, those suffering can be better supported.

"Australia has a world-class safety net of mental health and suicide prevention services ready and waiting to help", Ms Murray said.

According to statistics from the Police Department of Investigation and Planning, the number of suicides in the West Bank previous year increased to 25, compared to 22 cases reported in 2017. Rates varied widely, however, between countries, from 5 suicide deaths per 100 000, to more than 30 per 100 000.

According to ISAP, suicide is amongst the top 20 leading causes of death globally for people of all ages. The high toxicity of many pesticides means that such suicide attempts often lead to death, particularly in situations where there is no antidote or where there are no medical facilities nearby.

If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. It's widely known that certain behaviors indicate the possibility of suicide. In the Republic of Korea - where the herbicide paraquat accounted for the majority of pesticide suicide deaths in the 2000s - a ban on paraquat in 2011-2012 was followed by a halving of suicide deaths from pesticide poisoning between 2011 and 2013. Yet, only 80 of the 183 WHO Member States for which estimates were produced in 2016 had good-quality vital registration data. Equal numbers of men and women take their own lives in low and middle-income countries.

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day, and people are being asked to light a candle to mark it tonight.

Represented by an orange ribbon that signifies the global symbol for World Suicide Prevention Day, the emoji will appear when people Tweet with the hashtags #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #SuicidePrevention #WSPD2019, #WSPD from September 10 to October 30, 2019.
