ISRO now extends Chandrayaan-2 mission life to 7 years

Indian spacecraft launched last month is now orbiting moon

"The attempts will be made till September 20-21 when sunlight will be there in the area where the Vikram has landed", an ISRO official preferring anonymity said.

Some early reports suggested that the spacecraft was still in one piece despite crashing, with unnamed sources claiming that the lander was near its intended landing site but was tilted onto its side rather than sitting upright.

Evidently, there will come a time when man will decide to shift out of Earth and I'm not taking merely a few dwelling mission, I am taking about setting up a dwelling on one other planet. DSN supports Nasa and non-NASA missions that explore the furthest points of our solar system.

But today as we celebrate Chandrayaan and India's most ambitious space mission, there are certain pertinent questions that come to my mind.

But sadly the lander could not control the velocity during the last two minutes due to which it couldn't soft-land on the moon. When Chandrayaan-2 orbiter was launched on July 22, it had 1,697 kg of fuel. Concurrently, the U.S. has pledged to set up lunar laboratories in the near future, while Europe and Russian Federation have also revealed plans to launch multifaceted missions. Communication can only be established if Vikram's antenna is pointing in the right direction, but no information of the lander's orientation, condition, or even its exact location is known yet. NASA's orbiter is scheduled to pass over the region on September 17. US President Donald Trump wants Nasa to use the services of private space companies like Elon Musk's SpaceX and Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin to make the manned mission to Moon a reality again, over 50 years after the famous Apollo-11 mission that helped the US make history by becoming the first country in the world to land on Moon.
