Former Vikings kicker only lasts a game with the Jets

Los Angeles Rams placekicker Sam Ficken warms up before an NFL football wild-card playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams Saturday Jan. 6 2018 in Los Angeles

The New York Jets have changed kickers.

If there is a positive takeaway from this signing, Ficken has missed just one of his 15 extra-point tries in his brief National Football League career and that's something that the likes of Bertolet and Vedvik have struggled with. "In four career games, the 6'1", 191-pounder connected on three of his six field goal attempts and one of his two extra points.

Next up on the Jets' constantly spinning kicking carousel: Sam Ficken. He was eventually picked up by the New York Jets before the start of the regular season and he entered Week 1 as their starting kicker. We haven't performed well. "We're going to try to figure out a way to fix it".

But even before his retirement, the issue started way back in March when the team chose to let Pro Bowler Jason Myers walk after a career year.

The Jets didn't want to spend that much on a kicker and opted for Chandler Catanzaro, who struggled in training camp and retired abruptly after the second preseason game.

Vedvik was coveted by teams in need of kicking help after impressing as Justin Tucker's preseason backup with the Baltimore Ravens. A familiar face in Taylor Bertolet was brought back only for him to prove that he wasn't the answer after a disastrous summer. It was a stunner because they had traded a fifth-round pick for him.

The Jets loved Vedvik's leg strength, thinking they could get him right in a week for the opener.

Not too long ago, the Minnesota Vikings felt they acquired someone who could potentially solve their recent kicking troubles. "I don't even remember what was discussed".
