The Mandalorian Teaser Trailer Is The Mad Max Of Star Wars

Disney on Friday at D23 unveiled the first official trailer for The Mandalorian, the Star Wars galaxy's first live-action TV series and one of the marquee titles for Disney+, the streaming service that launches in November.

Season 7 got a new trailer during SDCC this year, revealing the different plotlines that this final season of the show will cover. In other words, pretty much in the middle of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. As per Luke Skywalker's story, Rebels destroy the Galactic Empire, paving the way to the New Republic.

Favreau said the move to Disney+ offered "an opportunity to tell a story that's bigger than television, but you don't have the same expectations that a big holiday release has, which to me isn't that type of Star Wars that comes out of me".

A new poster for the show was also shown off, plus it was announced at D23 that Ming-Na Wen ("Stargate Universe", "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.") will be joining the cast of "The Mandalorian."

The footage opens with a striking image: severed heads of Stormtroopers displayed on spikes (which calls to mind Joffrey Baratheon's trophy heads from Game of Thrones).

In May, filmmaker Werner Herzog said The Mandalorian was a "phenomenal achievement". Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in an untitled series for Disney+, which will begin shooting next year. In addition to executive producing, Filoni has also been confirmed to direct the first episode with additional episodes helmed by Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).
