The Virginia rapper will join the ranks of fellow icons like Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Madonna, and last year's recipient, Jennifer Lopez, with the prestigious prize, which honors an artist's remarkable body of work.

"Missy's impact on the music landscape is indelible", Viacom's Head of Music and Music Talent Bruce Gillmer said in a statement.

The ceremony which airs live on MTV on August 26, will be Missy's first time performing live in over a decade. There have been a lot of years in which fans have been rooting for Missy to receive this award.
