Fox News's Sean Hannity has put network rivalry to one to side and come to the defense of Chris Cuomo after a profanity-laced video of the CNN anchor threatening a man at a bar in NY went viral.

"Chris Cuomo defended himself when he was verbally attacked with the use of an ethnic slur in an orchestrated setup", CNN spokesman Matt Dornic said in a Monday statement on Twitter.

"If you want to play, then we'll fucking play", Cuomo shot back, hurling a series of insults at the man and referring to him as a "punk bitch".

Unlikely though it may sound, TTP says that the man featured in the video did not know Cuomo's real name as he heard of him only through The Rush Limbaugh show, who repeatedly referred to Cuomo as "Fredo".

The 49-year-old anchor tells the man that the name "Fredo" is as offensive to Italian Americans as the n-word is to African Americans.

Back on the video, when things grew more heated, Cuomo said he would resort to violence, threatening to "fucking throw you down these stairs like a fucking punk".

Ironically, a clip from Chris Cuomo Tonight has also recently gone viral that shows frequent guest and CNN contributor Ana Navarro calling Don. Jr. "You call me "Fredo" it's like I call you punk b-ch, you like that?" Or does the use of that slur have very different meaning and intention when it's used against someone with such proud Italian-American heritage? Conservative commentators, including US President Donald Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. derided Cuomo's reaction to being called "Fredo" while dismissing the alleged racial connotation of the word. Cuomo asked. "Then take a swing at me".

"I'll f--ing ruin your sh-t, man", Cuomo tells him.

"Fredo is from the 'Godfather, ' he was a weak brother and the use of it to an Italian is disparaging", he continues. Cuomo's older brother is now serving as governor for the state of NY and their father had a career in politics decades ago.

He added: "Hey @ChrisCuomo, take it from me, "Fredo" isn't the N word for Italians, it just means you're the dumb brother".

"I assume @cnn not available for comment", Donald Trump Jr. tweeted.

"Fredo is from The Godfather".
