Arsenal's Koscielny refuses to join pre-season tour - club

Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel on the club's pre-season tour of the United States

The 33-year-old wants to quit the Gunners to return to France, with Bordeaux, Lyon and Rennes all keen.

That could apply to a lot of things to be honest, but on this occasion, their anger is exclusively directed at the Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny.

Unai Emery appeared to have lined up the ideal long-term replacement for the France worldwide.

The English Premier League club released a statement saying it was "very disappointed by Laurent's actions, which are against our clear instructions".

Arsenal have been linked with several defenders to help them sure things up at the back, and with this gesture from Koscielny, it is possible that he could be on his way out. "We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time", the statement continued.

If Koscielny does leave, he will bow out after another trophy-less season after Unai Emery's side were beaten in the Europa League final by Chelsea.

Ligue 1 sides Lyon and Bordeaux have been linked with the 33-year-old former France worldwide, as have Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.

Koscielny didn't come back into the team until mid-December last season due the Achilles injury that ruled him out of the World Cup in Russian Federation a year ago.

The Gunners begin their pre-season campaign against Colorado Rapids on July 16 before facing Bayern Munich, Roma and Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup.

Saliba is viewed as a natural heir to Koscielny, but made only 18 appearances in Ligue 1 last season.
