After Russell Wilson’s huge deal, speculation turns to Patrick Mahomes’ next contract

Russell Wilson becomes NFL's highest-paid player in blockbuster deadline deal

The deal is worth $140 million over four years with a $65 million signing bonus, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday, making Wilson the highest-paid player in the National Football League at $35 million per year.

Russell Wilson's new deal with keep him with the Seahawks for the next five seasons.

The Green Bay Packers signed Aaron Rodgers for $33.5 million a year and gave him $57.5 million to sign last year.

According to USA Today, Willson tweeted, 'Hey, Seattle, we got a deal.' while lying in bed with his wife Ciara. "Go Hawks. But I'ma see y'all in the morning. Time for y'all to go to bed", before the two ended the short video.

Wilson is confirming the contract agreement on Twitter.

Carroll said Jody Allen, the chair of the Seahawks following the death of her brother, Paul Allen, last fall, was instrumental in getting the deal finished. Reports indicate he may not show up to training camp unless he gets an extension, which could be problematic for this Seattle team after dishing out big time money for Wilson.

"He is incredible. He inspires me in so many ways", she said of her husband. Though the team had made clear that they wanted to work out a new deal with Wilson, tension reportedly mounted as the midnight deadline approached with no clear public signs of progress.

ESPN and the Seattle PI reported the terms of the deal. While that isn't cheap, it's more than fair to pay the best middle linebacker in the league - and something they can afford even with Wilson's mega deal in place. The team held leverage knowing it likely had at least three more seasons with Wilson under center. Seattle has also reached the playoffs 6 of the 7 years Wilson has been under center, as TMZ points out. If the Cowboys think life gets easier as their quarterback gains experience, it's nearly like they've forgotten the oldest rule in the book. He has passed for 25,624 yards with 212 total touchdowns while completing 64.1 percent of his passes. He won a Super Bowl in his second season and got back to the championship game a year later before making the one major mistake of his career that will linger until he wins another title, throwing a goal line interception in the final minute when the Seahawks had a chance to take the lead on New England. "I'm excited about that", Wilson said.
