Real Madrid secure Sh5.6 billion Brazil star from Porto - club

On Thursday they announced the signing of 21-year-old Militao, who will join from Porto in a €50million (£43m) deal in the summer.

Real Madrid have officially confirmed the signing of Brazilian defender Eder Militao.

Zidane's return suggests that Madrid president Florentino Perez has given the Frenchman assurances that signings will be made this summer - assurances that he couldn't give back in May when Zidane stepped down from the job. This is what the statement from Los Blancos said: "Real Madrid C.F. and FC Porto have agreed the transfer of Éder Militão and the player will sign on a six-year contract running until the 30th of June 2025".

Militao - who can play as a central defender, right-back or defensive midfielder - was also linked with Liverpool and Manchester United.

"He comes to the Whites from Porto, where he has quickly become a star of the team in only his first year in the Portuguese League". It stands out for its speed, placement and ability to anticipate.

Still only 21, he began his career with Sao Paulo in his native Brazil before moving to Porto last summer.

Those at the Santiago Bernabeu are hoping that he proves to be a shrewd addition for the future.

The Blancos have endured a hard campaign as a result, with Zidane becoming the third man to fill their managerial hot-seat.
