Beto O'Rourke cheers as he listens to Bobby Pulido sing

BETO O'Rourke, a skateboarding former punk rocker feted as one of the Democratic Party's rising stars, said yesterday he is running for president - joining a crowded field of candidates vying to challenge US President Donald Trump in 2020.

"This is a defining moment of truth for this country, and for every single one of us", O'Rourke said in a video announcement posted on his Facebook page.

O'Rourke made his first campaign stop in Keokuk, Iowa, to answer questions from some of the state's more rural population.

"He may not just be running for president, he may be running for vice president".

O'Rourke constantly avoided answering how he would handle migrant caravans that was heading toward the U.S. -Mexico border, despite immigration and border security overwhelmingly being the top issues for voters in Texas. "I've never seen so much hand movement".

"I have nothing to say to that".

Klobuchar, asked about O'Rourke on Thursday, let out a hearty, "Welcome!" Elizabeth Warren and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, have also spoken of the need for the US government to reckon with and make up for centuries of stolen labor and legal oppression. Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, D-McAllen, and Eddie Lucio Jr., D-Brownsville; state Reps.

O'Rourke almost upset Sen.

"He's not going to get the money he got when he ran for Senate".

Speculation that O'Rourke would run for president began shortly after the former El Paso congressman lost November's midterm election to Cruz by 2.6 percent, the closest a Democrat has come to winning a Senate seat in Texas in decades.

O'Rourke's campaign did not reply to The Daily Caller News Foundation's request for comment.

"I am running to serve you as the next president", O'Rourke wrote in a tweet on Thursday, adding that the challenges faced by the USA "are the greatest in living memory".

But Branham said he believes O'Rourke could ultimately have another position in mind as he launches this presidential bid. "And, of course, he's someone that comes, like I do, from the center of the country".
