NASA spotted hopping liquid water on Moon’s surface

"By studying these precious lunar samples for the first time, a new generation of scientists will help advance our understanding of our lunar neighbor and prepare for the next era of exploration of the Moon and beyond,"explained Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for NASA's Science Mission Directorate". The National Space Council, headed by Vice President Pence, has made a return to the moon a top priority, and officials have said the administration would like it to happen before the 2020 presidential election. New Budget Defers Funding of New Space Launch System One of the casualties of the 2020 budget is the development of an upgraded SLS known as Block 1B version.

In response, Bridenstine said "absolutely", adding further details about how women will be involved with a Mars mission.

"We are going to the Moon with innovative new technologies and systems to explore more locations across the surface than we ever thought possible", he wrote. And I think it can be done. "Here's the glory of the U.S. of A. We have an incredible capability that exists right now that we can use off the shelf to accomplish this objective".

The announcement was a blow for Boeing, one of the prime contractors on the SLS rocket, as it was facing serious repercussions in the wake of the crashes involving its 737 Max 8 airplane.

In recent years, Nasa has seen an increase in female applicants for their astronaut programmes.

Nasa administrator Jim Bridenstine said, "the first person on Mars is likely to be a woman".

But the delays have forced the agency to look at using other rockets available.

The new plan would consist of first launching the Orion capsule, and then follow it with the launch of an upper stage for propulsion. It's a huge step for women in regards to their placement at NASA, because the first female astronauts were introduced in 1968 (a year before Armstrong stood on the Moon), and still, there haven't been women on the Moon or making a big exploration by themselves. Commercial heavy-lift rockets, such as SpaceX's Falcon Heavy and United Launch Alliance's Delta 4 Heavy, aren't considered powerful enough to send the Orion crew capsule and its European-built attachment all the way around the moon.

Bridenstine did not address how NASA would pay for those launches.

Bridenstine said that NASA planners determined last week that the preparations for EM-1 wouldn't make the previously anticipated June 2020 launch date.
