Kyiv ranks 173rd in 2019 Quality of Living City Ranking

Globally the Austrian city of Vienna remains at the top place for the 10th year in a row, followed by Zurich in Switzerland, with the cities of Auckland in New Zealand, Munich in Germany, and Vancouver in Canada at joint third place.

The world's largest human resources consulting firm released its yearly ranking of cities for foreign employees on Wednesday.

In 34th place, San Francisco was named the best city to live in in the USA, while Detroit was the lowest ranking US city in 72nd place. Elsewhere, Uruguay's capital Montevideo was the highest ranked in South America, while Port Louis, Mauritius, was Africa's top city.

The capital of Belarus is in 188th place out of 231 cities included in the ranking.

Western Europe dominated Mercer's new safety ranking with Luxembourg at the top of the list.

"Companies looking to expand overseas have a host of considerations when identifying where best to locate staff and new offices", Bonic continued.

Coming in last in the 231st position is Baghdad, Iraq; however, it must be said that whilst this city came in last, it did show significant improvements in safety and health services.

Singapore has come out tops as the country with the highest quality of living in Asia-Pacific, with the highest rank in personal safety. Internal stability issues and public demonstrations in Nicaragua meant that Managua (180) fell seven places in the quality of living ranking this year, and ongoing cartel-related violence and high crime rates meant that Mexico, Monterrey (113) and Mexico City (129) also remained low. Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic, and Sanaa in Yemen were 230th and 229th, respectively. Seoul jumped two places from 2017 after their political stability returned when their president was arrested a year ago. The Middle East's safest cities are Dubai (73) and Abu Dhabi (73).
