Chelsea’s Sarri unhappy with sorry state of Kiev pitch

Chelsea travel to Dynamo Kyiv in the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie.

The Brazilian has been called one of Europe's most important playmakers by Maurizio Sarri and his team-mate says criticism is unfair.

Giroud completed his ideal hat trick - goals with the left and right foot and one with his head - in the 59th minute with a towering header from a Willian free kick to make it 4-0 as the rout continued. "It's really unsafe to play any..."

"I don't know the reason, probably winter, because I played here two years ago and the pitch was wonderful [but it is now] very, very unsafe".

Sarri, who was in charge of Napoli when the Italian side beat Dynamo 2-1 at the stadium during the 2016-17 Champions League group stages, also criticised UEFA for not paying more attention to player welfare. Chelsea have invested heavily in the academy and I'm sure they are going to want to see the fruits of that.

I think Ruben has absolutely everything and to be fair he's had a few injury problems this season.

"So, even when the players aren't in good moments or play well, we need the fans to support us until the end of the game". We know we have to take care of ourselves.

He picked Kante as the quietest Blues player, saying: "It is N'Golo a lot of the time but he can be loud as well when you get him to talk".

Striker Gonzalo Higuain has not travelled due to illness while teenage winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is likely to start, Sarri added.

Questions have been asked about Sarri's lack of flexibility in his tactics, but Willian backed the Chelsea coach's use of Jorginho.

"Firstly, I'd love him to stay at Chelsea", Lampard told talkSPORT.

"We just need to continue to play in the same way".
