Champions League quarter-final and semi-final draws

Manchester City players celebrate after they demolished Germany's Schalke 7-0 on 12 March 2019

All the four Premier League teams competing in the Champions League this season have made it to the quarter-finals.

The Champions League always pits the biggest players against each other, none more so than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and Mourinho has said he would love to see the pair meet in a Champions League final for the first time.

"But I would do two matches between English teams, which would mean two teams would be in the semi-finals".

Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool will be part of the draw on Friday morning but for the first time since 2006, there will be NO German teams involved in the latter stages of the UCL.

"And with the emotion of that game, the Champions League final, can those players even realistically play on the Thursday night for us?"

Back in 1999 Fergie's men beat Inter, then Juventus en route to the Final, where they completed the famous treble with a last-gasp comeback win against Bayern Munich.

And fans of any English club will be left disappointed with Liverpool - should they make it through - Manchester City, United and Tottenham all having over 25,000 season-ticket holders. He helped Real win four of the past five Champions Leagues and it is hard to imagine the Spanish giants winning any of them without the Portuguese star's contribution.

While they are by no means firing on all cylinders, Liverpool can take great confidence from the fact they have got through two tough fixtures which if they had lost would have seriously damaged their season.

In particular, Mohamed Salah has struggled to find his goalscoring boots in recent weeks, with just one goal in his last seven league matches.

Everything inevitably comes to an end at some point but if an English team is to win the Champions League this season, they are likely to have to beat a team containing Messi or Ronaldo, or defeat both, in order to claim the trophy. "That is the type of guy you face to achieve the next stages".
