Canada's Trudeau shuffles cabinet amid scandal

Ellis weighs in on SNC Lavalin fallout

Bibeau is now responsible for selling recently signed trade agreements to Quebec dairy farmers that will reduce the protective effect of supply management in their industry.

The pressure, she said, began in September and was sustained until December. Contrarily, her testimony is still deemed as a major threat to Trudeau's chances of getting reelected, with the polls approaching in October.

Maryam Monsef - the minister for women and gender equality who made global headlines in 2016 when it was revealed that she was born in Iran and was not Canada's first Afghan-born MP as the Liberals touted when she was elected to the House of Commons the year before - also had the worldwide development portfolio added to her responsibilities.

MacAulay will take over responsibility for a new veterans-benefits regime the parliamentary budget officer reported last week will mean less generous support for veterans leaving the Canadian Forces.

Goodale said he's hoping there can be "some kind of reconciliation" with Wilson-Raybould but isn't sure that's possible.

Previously, she had said her intention was to remain in caucus and continue to serve as the representative for Vancouver Granville.

Unusually, the official headquarters for the Department of Veterans Affairs is outside the capital region - it's in Charlottetown, P.E.I. which is MacAulay's home province.

"'Undue pressure' was placed on former Attorney General (Wilson-Raybould) by political actors urging her to exercise her authority to overrule the director of public prosecutions", says the letter, dated February 28.

And she said she believes she was shuffled out of the prestigious justice post because she refused.

On CTV's Question Period, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said that repairing the relationship between Trudeau and Wilson-Raybould will "take an bad lot of hard work". On Friday, Trudeau did not take questions from reporters - a departure from past cabinet shuffle events at Rideau Hall.

Wilson's remark has prompted the leader of the opposition Conservatice Party to demand Prime Minister's resignation.

"Given the subsequent chain of events that include portions of conversations that reference huge pressure and political interference and the subsequent removal of the former attorney general and justice minister from the position. there is reason to believe that pressure and interference did occur", the letter says. That follows a letter Scheer sent Lucki on Thursday, asking her to initiate an investigation. She told the Vancouver Sun earlier that she had been confirmed as the Liberal candidate in that riding a year ago.

The prime minister has denied putting pressure on her.
