Busch Closes in on History with Phoenix Win

Kyle Busch made it a weekend sweep at ISM Raceway in the Arizona desert. Last week's victor at Las Vegas, Joey Logano, finished 10th.

The 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season is in full swing.

"I knew before we went back green that we were going to be right on the verge", Busch told reporters. "You have to go hard first and worry about fuel afterwards. Once I got to Blaney, I was able to save a little bit".

Last weekend in Las Vegas, Busch won both the Truck Series and Xfinity races to set up the potential for a rare three-race sweep - a feat only he has accomplished, doing so twice at Bristol during his career. He will go for the 200 milestone next weekend at Auto Club Speedway in California.

"Not for me to worry about", he said. "But for myself and the career that I've had, I've been fortunate to be with a lot of great people, a lot of great sponsors, those that stick around me like Joe Gibbs, M&M Skittles, Snickers, Interstate Batteries that has always been behind me is what it's all about for me".

Kyle Busch celebrated Sunday's win in the Ticket Guardian 500 with a burnout.

With the win, Busch joins teammate Denny Hamlin and Penske drivers Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano as drivers having won races and securing berths in the season-ending Playoffs.

Even after victory outside Phoenix, Busch was still ruing what might have been.

For Kyle Busch, he's not anxious about the numbers just yet, he's more interested in dishing out praise for those that helped get him to this point. "I wish we would have swept last weekend, too, with two weekend sweeps in a row".

Martin Truex Jr. also got around Blaney to finish second, taking advantage of a No. 19 vehicle that kept getting better on longer runs.

Blaney said hopes to him to give Penske three straight wins came up a couple gallons short.

"Honestly, we hung on better there on two tires than I thought we would", Blaney said.
