Yankees continue to ‘check in’ on Manny Machado

Bryce Harper Washington Nationals

They have now been upstaged by the Giants with oddsmakers now putting the San Francisco franchise on top of the list.

The Philadelphia Phillies and the San Francisco Giants are the two teams Nightengale believes are still in it for Harper.

On Monday, Nightengale went a step further and revealed the details of the potential deal on the table for Harper, while also claiming it was now a two-horse race for the right-fielder's signature.

Neither player appears any close to agreeing to a deal.

"With the Giants moving in and all the optimism, I do believe it's a coin flip", Nightengale told KNBR. According to Jon Heyman, however, that's not going to get it done.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants are even longer shots at +10000 at sports betting sites, but that has not stopped them from taking a shot at Harper on a short-term deal. Bonds meant so much to the Giants back then, and (Harper) wants to be that guy now. "And say, 'You know what, do you want a short-term contract to come to San Francisco, or do you want a long-term contract and go to Philadelphia'".

Major League Baseball insider Bob Nightengale believes it's become a two-team race for Harper, who has been linked to several different Major League Baseball franchises over the past couple of months.

The question is, what under-the-radar teams still have a shot at Harper and Machado, and do they have enough talent to make a postseason run without those stars? I think the fact that it's an iconic franchise, you've got 40,000 fans a game, always electricity and buzz there.
