Naomi Osaka has split with coach Sascha Bajin, the world number one announced on Monday.

Bajin had suggested that he was in for the "long haul" with Osaka in an interview late a year ago, but no explanation has yet been given for the decision for the pair to split. "Thank you for letting me be part of this" he tweeted. What a ride that was.

An ex-ATP tour player, Bajin won 13 Grand Slams while in the Serena camp, including all four major tournaments and a hat-trick of Wimbledon and US Open titles in a partnership that lasted from 2008 to 2015.

Osaka hired Bajin before the 2018 season.

Osaka, who became the first Asian to hold the top ranking after beating Czech Petra Kvitova in the Melbourne final on January 26, had worked with the German for just over a year.

Some fans pointed out that she had not named him in her speech after her win at the Australian Open.

Osaka won her first WTA title at the BNP Paribas Open, last March, following which she went on to clinch 2018 US Open title and 2019 Australian Open. She has dual citizenship and now is based in Florida.
