Icy weather possible for parts of Virginia Sunday night

WATCH Dry Today Before Freezing Drizzle Overnight

The best chance for periods of steady and even moderate snow will be between 10 PM Sunday and 3 AM Monday.

On Tuesday, the city is expected to see a high of -1 C.

Valentine's Day on Thursday, Feb. 14 will be mostly sunny with a high around 40. Heavy, wet snow will continue to fall through the rest of Monday evening. "This round of snow will bring some substantial snowfall accumulations to the area with our southern counties (Franklin, Adams, York and Lancaster) picking up 2-4" of snow.

Due to strong and gusty easterly winds, there could be low visibility due to blowing snow before the snow turns into freezing rain and ice pellets.

Cloudy weather will keep Sunday morning temperatures above freezing: expect lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. However, temperatures should rise above freezing around or before daybreak. We are also tracking a wintry mix moving in form the south and west that could bring some freezing rain to areas this morning as well, so be cautious on the roadways.

While exactly how much precipitation the area will receive is unclear officials said total snowfall and ice pellet amounts of 5 to 15 cm are possible, along with ice buildup from freezing rain. Warmer air will surge into the region late Tuesday. Major roads were shut down for hours and driving anywhere was near impossible.
