Here's Your First Look at Will Smith as the Genie in 'Aladdin'

An extended look at the live-action iteration of Disney's "Aladdin" aired during Sunday night's Grammy Awards, and it's shining, shimmering, splendid! Mena Massoud stars as the street-rat-with-a-heart-of-gold Aladdin, with Naomi Scott as the attractive and determined Princess Jasmine. "Your life begins now, Aladdin".

"You really don't know who I am?" he asks.

Previously, fans were gifted with a teaser in October of the forthcoming film but weren't privy to any sighting of Will Smith as the genie originally voiced by the late Robin Williams.

Then viewers see Aladdin entering a cave to get the lamp, rubs it and then Genie comes into focus. "Genie, wishes lamp... none of that ringing a bell?" Is it even possible to live up to the expectations for that character?

While some people took to Twitter in awe of Smith's look as the Genie, others felt a bit less positive about the casting.

Just saw the #Aladdin preview.

The 50-year-old actor appeared in his Genie costume - which was published on the cover of Entertainment Weekly in December - but this time, entirely blue, seemingly with some CGI effects.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, the man behind 2009's Sherlock Holmes, Aladdin hits theaters on May 24.
