'Game of Thrones' Season 8: First Look Photos Released

The prequel will be set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones

After a few teasers that gave pretty much nothing away, we'd been waiting for something - frankly anything - from Game Of Thrones Season 8 to sustain us during the long winter wait for, well, winter to return.

This Game of Thrones prequel stars Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, and Denis Gough. Showrunner Jane Goldman worked with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin to develop a concept for the show and a writers room is reportedly at work penning more episodes should they be ordered.

Game of Thrones prequel update: The HBO pilot now has a filming start date.

Take a look at these new photos of the final season of "Game of Thrones" and get ready for the season debut on Sunday night, April 14 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.

This news comes after almost a year of rumors of when the HBO show will start filming.

The six-episode finale will air on Sky Atlantic in April, bringing to a conclusion the saga of who will rule Westeros - nearly two years after the end of the previous season. Clarke has previously said on record, "There's lots of different endings that could happen; I think we're doing all of them and we aren't being told which is actually what's going to happen".

This is especially more likely because all the armies will reportedly be converging at King's Landing. There are no Targaryens - Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built.

HBO had initially announced the development of four Game of Thrones spinoffs in 2017, with a fifth project later revealed.
