Robert Mueller met with Trump's pollster

Trump Tells ABC’s Jon Karl ‘I Didn’t know Anything About’ Manafort Collusion With Russia

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort reportedly tried to share polling data from the 2016 presidential campaign with a pair of Ukrainian oligarchs who owed him $2.4 million.

According to CNN, Manafort told his accountant in a November 2016 email to expect a $2.4 million payment for consulting work he performed in Ukraine.

There is no evidence that Trump was aware that Manafort was sharing the data with Kilimnik, who was described by Mueller in court documents a year ago as having "ties to a Russian intelligence service".

Citing Manafort's electronic communications, the special counsel said he had remained in touch with Trump aides, including a May 26, 2018, text exchange that came months after his initial indictment authorizing a "person to speak with an administration official on Manafort's behalf".

Prosecutors alleged that Manafort lied about providing Kilimnik with the polling data. Trump did not elaborate and turned to another reporter with a question on a different topic.

Manafort's defense team was responding to Mueller's accusations that he lied to the special counsel's investigators about his contacts with Russians during the campaign after pleading guilty previous year.

"No, I didn't know anything about it", he told reporters at the White House. Manafort, who sat in a wheelchair during a court hearing in October, also has severe gout, his lawyers said. President Trump denies any campaign collusion with Russian Federation. That could change, assuming that Trump's lying about this, but Mueller wouldn't have put this much effort into publicly undermining Manafort's credibility as a witness if that was a likely possibility.

Manafort already faces lengthy prison sentences for charges brought by Mueller's office in Virginia and Washington, D.C. He also has a March 5 sentencing before Jackson in Washington for his guilty plea on conspiracy against the US and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
