New York Jets fire head coach Todd Bowles

The New England Patriots wrapped up the regular season with a 38-3 thumping of the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Something he's never done: played on wild-card weekend. "That was basically a playoff win right there". After posting a 10-6 record in his first year, the team has slumped to 5-11 records the previous two seasons prior to 2018.

The Jets offered little resistance as Brady sent James White, Rex Burkhead, Phillip Dorsett and James Edelman into the end zone while Kyle Van Noy also scored on a turnover.

Following a stunning performance in the season opener against the Lions that seemed to suggest Sam Darnold and the Jets were poised to make a run at a potential playoff berth this season, blunder-filled losses to the Browns, Jaguars and Bills annihilated any real chance of NY evolving into a contender for the postseason.

Brady finished 24-for-33 with 250 yards and four touchdowns.

Cole Beasley claimed the crucial touchdown late in the game after an initial call of incomplete against his catch was overturned.

Coach Bill Belichick said on a conference call with reporters Monday that the Patriots will occupy their time with a combination of rest, film work, practice, fundamentals, scheme plays, and situational practice. They will have the week off before finding out which of the wild-card winners — it could be the Texans, Ravens or Chargers — will be their opponent in Foxborough on January 13.
